Within driving distance? We highly recommend the drive to Valle. Cross and return through San Diego's "San Ysidro" border.
Once across, take Mexico 1D (the toll road) toward Ensenada. There are 3 toll booths along the way (~50 pesos / $3 USD each), so bring 200 pesos or $10 USD cash to be safe.

Fly into San Diego (SAN) or Tijuana (TIJ) and rent a car for the weekend. Valle has no rideshare, so a car is essential.
Renting from San Diego? Book through Hertz — the only agency that allows cross-border travel. Per their rental terms (#):
Add a Mexico Insurance Policy at pickup ($38–$48/day; credit card required)
Not all vehicles are eligible, so confirm yours is cleared for Mexico
